Tiger Leaping Gorge Hike: Where Thrills Meet Beauty

Located at the junction of Lijiang and Shangri-La in Yunnan Province, Tiger Leaping Gorge is one of the deepest canyons in the world. Hikers traverse steep mountain paths, with the roaring Jinsha River on one side and towering snow-capped mountains on the other. Though only 23 kilometers long, the trail’s thrills leave a lasting impression. As one hiker put it: "The body endures hell, while the eyes feast in paradise." The best hiking season is from April to June and September to October.

The Tiger Leaping Gorge High Trail is regarded as one of the world’s top ten classic trekking routes and a world-class trekking destination. The trail stretches over 24 kilometers, usually completed in two days, with an altitude of no more than 2,700 meters, making it suitable for beginners and most trekking enthusiasts. Along the way, trekkers enjoy breathtaking views of the Jinsha River, the towering cliffs of Tiger Leaping Gorge, the majestic Haba Snow Mountain, and a direct view of all thirteen peaks of Yulong (Jade Dragon) Snow Mountain.
